Hospitals are embracing AI-powered medical scribes

Hospitals across the U.S. are rolling out a new way for doctors to take notes: AI-powered medical scribes. Sometimes called “ambient clinical documentation” or “ambient AI,” these tools listen to patient-clinician interactions and automatically generate clinical notes that physicians can edit in a fraction of the time it takes to write a note from scratch.

Here are four examples of health systems that piloted and implemented AI scribe technologies. The trends are clear: AI-powered medical scribes reduce documentation time, increase time with patients, and improve physician wellbeing.

  1. Stanford Embraces Ambient AI

Stanford Health Care piloted an ambient documentation tool that listens to clinical conversations and automatically creates note drafts. The pilot involved 48 physicians and evaluated Microsoft's DAX Copilot. Results were overwhelmingly positive: 96% of physicians found the tool easy to use, 78% said it helped speed up note-taking, and two-thirds reported time savings.

  1. St. Luke’s Pilots AI Notes & Coding

St. Luke’s Health System sought to alleviate clinicians' documentation load and increase patient face time. They partnered with Ambience Healthcare to deploy an AI solution that automatically generates clinical notes and provides real-time coding suggestions within their Epic EHR. After a 12-week pilot across 11 specialties, physicians experienced a 39% reduction in documentation time and a 23% increase in patient face time.

“I go home with a smile every night. This has been such a relief. I got so much of my life back. I have so much more joy in my interactions with my patients that I didn’t realize I was missing beforehand.” — Christopher Streeter, M.D. Pediatric Behavioral Health, St. Luke's Health System

  1. UChicago Medicine Expands Ambient AI System-Wide

The University of Chicago Medicine piloted Abridge’s AI platform with 200 physicians over six weeks. The pilot improved patient experience scores, including higher perceptions of “concern shown by the provider” and feeling included in care decisions. Clinicians also gave positive feedback: 90% of providers felt more valued by the organization, and the number of clinicians able to provide undivided attention to patients nearly doubled. UChicago Medicine is expanding the program to over 800 clinicians.

“This shows that technology has the power to ease burdens that our clinician colleagues have been experiencing.” — Dr. Sachin Shah, CMIO, UChicago Medicine
  1. Cleveland Clinic Rolls Out AI Solution

Cleveland Clinic conducted a six-month pilot program, evaluating five major AI scribe vendors. After testing the technology with 300 clinicians across 20 specialties, they selected Ambience Healthcare as their partner. The pilot demonstrated a 25% reduction in note creation time, a nearly 50% drop in after-hours “pajama time,” and a 32% increase in time with patients.

AI scribes are here to stay

As these examples illustrate, health systems are making significant investments in AI-powered documentation solutions. The benefits are clear and supported by evidence: ambient AI scribes can save time, improve physician well-being, and enhance the patient experience.

If you're an independent physician or clinician at a hospital that hasn’t implemented an AI scribe, consider Conveyor AI from Mobius MD. Conveyor AI is a flexible, EHR-agnostic scribe that runs on an iPhone, works on any computer, and fits seamlessly into your existing workflow. It listens to patient visits, generates accurate note drafts, and allows providers to finalize documentation quickly—whether you're in the clinic or working remotely.

Conveyor AI doesn’t require system-wide implementation or IT integration, making it ideal for independent physicians or those practicing in smaller organizations. You can use it today to reduce documentation load and spend more time with patients.

Here’s one user review of Conveyor AI from the App Store:

“MobiusMD is a game-changer for my practice! The intuitive UI/UX makes navigation a breeze, allowing me to focus more on patient care and less on administrative tasks.
